After his second surgery, E.J Gold became more active again at this time.
Workshop in Penn Valley in December 2002. What I remember from the workshop is: E.J. was doing music, especially drumming, there was a lot of talk about gaming, some computer time in the barn, activities at the next door Institute Office house. Access to E.J. Gold was, compared to what you will see in later years, very very sparse.

One of the main IDHHB events of 2002 was reopening of a public space, a gallery in Grass Valley.

The 5th Ave. Gallery’s grand opening is Saturday from 4 to 9 p.m. at the Bret Harte Retirement Inn facility, 301 W. Main St., Grass Valley.
Opening today, the gallery features works by Grass Valley Graphics Group members, ceramics by E.J. Gold Earthenworks and jewelry from Gold’s and Linda Corriveau’s Jewels of Ancient Lands business.
In 1986, Gold co-founded the Grass Valley Graphics Group, an informal group of Nevada County artists that collaborates on national and international exhibits. Now the group has a permanent home to display its works.
Grass Valley Graphics Group members are Gold, Zoe Alowan, Aviko, Stephanie Boyd, David Christie, Corriveau, Douglass-Truth, Mark Einert, Oz Fritz, Richard Hart, Della Heywood, Lin Larsen, Iven Lourie, Menlo MacFarlane, Claude Needham, Lily Nova, Kelly Rivera, Shamila, Robert Trice, Rudy Udarbe, Heather Valencia, Denise Way, Tom X and Yanesh.
They work in a variety of media, including found-object sculpture, oil painting, cast-bronze sculptures, jewelry, works on paper, serigraphs, murals, photography, theater, dance, bunraku puppetry, video, computer animation and music.
Entertainment, champagne and refreshments will be featured at Saturday’s reception. Classical guitarist Paul Russell and Celtica (flutist Walburga Ziegenhagen and keyboardist Nancy Burns Trice) will perform.
5th Ave. Gallery is open seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Other viewing hours are available by calling the gallery at 271-2222.
